Spanish Department

WHO ARE WE?

Today, Spanish is experiencing an unprecedented boom, which is also felt here. In high school, you can choose Spanish as a second foreign language (in a four-year programme), but that certainly doesn't mean it will be on the sidelines. Our basic goal is B1 level, but we'll usually get you up to B2. In the end, Spanish will be your daily paella! Graduates and Spanish lovers can add two more hours of Spanish seminar per week in the final year to improve their knowledge of the history, literature and realities of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.

In addition to Spanish, you can also study Latin as a seminar. As well as equipping you for most university subjects (law, medicine, languages, but also biology or history), you will understand the cultural and linguistic context and become an expert on the origins of words. After Latin, the puzzle of European culture will finally start to fit together.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Spanish with us is a whirlwind of dancing, competitions and celebrations. In addition to the traditional conversation competitions, you can join us for Spanish cultural weeks in Hladnov, Havlovka or at the University of Ostrava, spend a night at school during the Spanish Film Marathon, or even try your hand at salsa or zumba. From time to time we also go on a long trip to Spain. And if you're really serious about Spanish, you can take the international DELE exam. These will open doors to universities in the Hispanic world and help you with future employers - and they're valid for life.

Would you like a taste of Spanish but prefer a second language? - Or are you in a six-year high school, but still drawn to flamenco and corrida? - We'll sort it all out. You can take a Spanish seminar in your junior year and leave Tigrid with not two, but three languages! - And if you take Latin...
